Sometimes in life, unexpected stories unfold. As he had just finished repairing the roof of his hotel, a hotelier in Carinthia (Austria) used his crane to see what the view looked like from atop the 300 years old lime tree of his property. And while he was enjoying the view over the old town and fields of Althofen, to the Karawanken-mountains, he suddenly asked himself “Why wouldn’t I share that incredible view with my guests?”
Two years and many procedures later, a real tree house hotel was sitting atop the 300 years old lime tree. Since June 2011, nature and tree house enthusiasts (or just adventurous guests) can make the most of their stay in Althofen, by spending a night at the Prechtlhof tree house hotel.
A wooden staircase allow guests to reach the first level of the tree house hotel, where a suite with a small bathroom including a shower, have been built. However, it is only after reaching the second floor of the structure, that visitors will be able to really grasp the full potential of the place: a roof terrace with its own private wooden bathtub, overlooks the old town of Altenbach. It is literally the crown jewel of the Prechtlhof tree house hotel.
While building the tree house, everything was made to protect the old lime tree, even though it lost a few branches in the process. That’s partly thanks to the know-how of the timber company Rauter (based in Feld am See), which is specialized in manufacturing wooden structures.
The structure of the tree house hotel was made of larch, a hardwood particularly known for its robustness. And in order to adequately protect the tree house hotel from the weather, it was coated with ADLER Pullex wood oil in a nature shade. And its triple UV protection long ensures that the Prechtlhof tree house hotel will continue to offer overtime, many more romantic weekends to happy couples.
The Prechtlof tree house hotel features a spa and wellness centre with a freshwater jacuzzi. Guests can taste an extensive selection of regional wines, hand-picked by the certified sommelier. The Hotel Prechtlhof offers an indoor swimming pool and state-of-the-art technology for the improvement of water quality. The spa includes a Finnish sauna and a solarium. All rooms are decorated with wooden panelling and include fluffy duvets, and are painted with ecological colors. Krappfeld is about 4 km from the Prechtlhof and easily reachable by car.
