Tree house hotel in France: Tree house Gabrielle d’Estrees
Established near the little village of Vernou-la-Celle-sur-Seine, an hour car ride from Paris (47 minutes in train), the Gabrielle d’Estrées tree house hotel is a small yet cozy place built 24 feets (8 meters) off the ground, on a 150 years old oak tree.
The treehouse, which can host two guests, is located between the impressive Castle of Graville and its surrounding forest, in a quiet area over fields and woods. Besides a comfy double bed, there is a hammock on the south-oriented deck so guests can fall asleep while star-gazing and/or enjoy the early morning sunlight.
Since there is no electricity in the tree house, candles are available and makes for an old school, romantic atmosphere in the evening.
And if you’re planning to go there for a romantic weekend (or a lazy one…), you’ll be happy to know that dinner and breakfast are provided by the hosts directly to the treehouse! As a matter of facts, guests can choose to have a light picnic or a full gourmet hot meal delivered to them, depending on what they fancy.
And at around 9 am in the morning, a basket with breakfast is delivered at the bottom of the tree, tied up to a rope, ready to be pulled up and enjoyed sitting on the deck under the morning sun, and with a beautiful view of the Castle of Graville! Be quick to pull it up as it is said that squirrels and horses have the “bad” habit of checking first what’s in the basket…
Tip: Vernou-la-Celle-sur-Seine is only 5km (3 miles) away from the city of Fontainebleau, which is renowned for its large and scenic forest, a favourite weekend getaway for Parisians, as well as for the historical Château de Fontainebleau, which once belonged to the kings of France. A must see!
The Gabrielle d’Estrees tree house hotel can be booked on airbnb, starting at $140/night.
