Treehouse in Indonesia: Bambu Indah
Bambu Indah is a radically distinctive boutique hotel in Ubud, carefully curated by two designers and long-term residents of Bali, Indonésie. It was opened in 2005, and since then the property has expanded to the riverside where bespoke, luxurious bamboo treehouses have been created. The resort is roughly a 15-minute drive from Ubud, the cultural heart and artistic center of the island of Bali, which is also home to the Aura House and Firefly Eco Lodge treehouses. However, when there, it feels like civilization is a distant memory thanks to the gorgeous location and stunning natural surroundings.
Seeking out one’s chosen accommodation at Bambu Indah can be an adventure in itself! Guests may need to traverse over stone paths, across bamboo bridges, and hike down long pathways beside the river. Thankfully, the resort’s staff will take care of the transport of all luggage, so there is no need to worry about that. Along the way, there will be the chance to admire some of the other huts and houses available for a memorable holiday at this resort. Each building is unique and completely fascinating in its own right.
Each house at Bambu Indah artistically blends bamboo interiors with antique Javanese teak wood fitting. They come with both air conditioning and a fan. Guests can enjoy views of the gardens, pool, or rice fields from the outdoor terrace. En suite bathrooms include free toiletries and a rain shower. Environmental kindness has been considered at every turn of the resort, from composting and recycling to eco-friendly soaps.
On-site at Bambu Indah there is a natural swimming kolan (swimming pool) surrounded by large river stones complete with an Indiana Jones-like swing for those that need a little adventure to interject their relaxation. Rather than manicured lawns, the property’s grounds are covered with vegetable beds and local edible and ceremonial plants, and the surrounding jungle can be seen and felt from every point. A riverside deck is dotted with pillows and hanging swing chairs that make stress impossible.
A night at Bambu Indah starts from €100, though prices vary throughout the year.
