Somewhere between the mountains and the sea, wrapped in the thick greenery of Catalonia’s La Selva region, there’s a place that feels like it belongs in a storybook. Cabanes als Arbres — or “Cabins in the Trees” — is exactly what the name promises, and then some. Ten wooden treehouses, perched high in the treetops, quietly tucked into the folds of a forest that seems to exhale around you.
Each treehouse is about 30 square meters — not huge, but more than enough. And every one comes with a terrace that, frankly, steals the show. Whether you’re facing the misty Montseny Massif or catching glimpses of the distant Pyrenees, the views are... well, they’re the kind you don’t forget. Even when you try.
Inside, it’s all warm wood and soft edges. Simple, sure, but not bare. There’s a kind of quiet elegance — lanterns casting soft light, wool blankets waiting to wrap around your shoulders, big windows that seem to frame the trees just right. It’s not luxury in the polished sense. No room service, no mini fridge. But that’s the point. You’re here to unplug. To actually hear the forest. And you do.
The air is full of birdcalls and breeze, and if you sit still long enough, you’ll start to hear the smaller sounds too — the creak of branches, the tiny rustle of leaves, maybe even the scurry of something curious down below. It’s calm, but not silent. It’s alive.
But — and this might surprise you — you’re not entirely off-grid. A short path leads to La Vileta, a traditional Catalan country house that acts as a common space. It’s charming in that slightly creaky, beautifully worn-in way. There’s breakfast there (yes, fresh pastries and coffee that somehow tastes better in the woods), and warm showers if your cabin doesn’t have one. It’s a nice balance — wild, but not without comfort.
Cabanes als Arbres isn’t flashy. There’s no infinity pool or Instagram “moment.” But it is honest. It's the kind of place where you read a book cover to cover, forget what time it is, and maybe even go to bed embarrassingly early just to wake up with the sun.
It’s not just a night in a treehouse — it’s a gentle nudge back to yourself.
